Prudential Hong Kong begins accepting claims for histotripsy care

Prudential Hong Kong has begun accepting insurance claims for histotripsy, a non-invasive ultrasound treatment for liver cancer, under its eligible medical insurance plans.
The insurer recently processed its first claim for the procedure.
Histotripsy uses focused soundwaves to create microbubbles within a tumour, which collapse and break down cancer cells without surgery, needles, or radiation.
The treatment allows same-day discharge and faster recovery compared to traditional methods.
Data from the Hong Kong Hospital Authority shows liver cancer was the fifth most common cancer and the third leading cause of cancer deaths in 2022.
In mainland China, it ranked as the second leading cause of cancer mortality.
According to Prudential’s Individual Life Claims Report 2024, one in five dollars spent on digestive system cancer claims is linked to liver cancer, with claims increasing by around 37% between 2022 and 2024.
Prudential has also extended its Medical Expenses Direct Billing Service to Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong, allowing the hospital to handle claims processing directly.
