Hong Kong ranks amongst top non-OIC destinations for Muslim travellers
Hong Kong’s investment in Muslim-friendly infrastructure contributed to this trend.
Hong Kong ranked as the third most preferred non-OIC destination for Muslim travellers in 2025, according to the Mastercard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI).
The report attributed this ranking to Hong Kong’s continued investment in Muslim-friendly infrastructure, including 61 hotels accredited by CrescentRating and 153 restaurants Halal-certified by the Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong.
Hong Kong also received the Most Promising Muslim-Friendly Destination of the Year award at the Global Muslim Travel Index Awards.
Globally, Muslim arrivals reached 176 million in 2024, up 25% year-on-year (YoY), and are projected to grow to 245 million by 2030.
To capitalise on this trend, the report said tourism stakeholders must adapt to the evolving needs of Muslim travellers by prioritising purpose, inclusivity, and digital innovation.
Key trends shaping Muslim travel preferences include the adoption of smart apps for Halal journeys, the rise of the modern female Muslim traveller, demand for Muslim-friendly facilities, growth in solo travel, and interest in digital detox retreats.
